Imfolozi dag 6:        First session with Fi

This morning we didn’t go on session. We got to sleep in. I tried but I woke up at 4.45 am. It was so nice and comfy that I decided to stay in bed and not go and see the sun rise. I dozed off a few times but not a really deep sleep. At 6.30 am it was time to get up. A nice breakfast with toast out of the toaster today, not the frying pan that makes me burn my toast every day. I felt so spoiled. 😊

This morning was about doing some admin work and photo’s. I did the data, making a new frequency sheet with Bronwen and sorting some of my photo’s. Not a very busy morning but enjoyable. The temperature was rising.

This afternoon session started at 3.45 pm. The first session with Fi since I’ve been back. Our target were the dogs. At the start we couldn’t get any signal but hypes of interference. The weather looked not so great. Big, dark clouds were around us and we could hear the thunder and see the lightning. I didn’t like the last bit at all. Remember we are sitting at the back of the car and use telemetry (a metal antenna) ☹. Before it came too close it stopped.

After a while we got signal. Half way true the session we decided to drive back to camp and see if we could see them from the rock. We didn’t see them but we had a good signal. While we were there we could see a herd of elephants and white rhino’s, two of them were fighting each other.

Then we drove to the first viewing point at the river. We need to know where they are because we are planning to get Oman from the Bhejie pack darted for contraception tomorrow. The signal got weaker but Fi had an idea where they are. Back to camp where a few started to play miniature golf. Good entertainment!

At the moment I’m exhausted, so I hope I have some more energy tomorrow.
