We left at 4 am today. It had been a very short night. Just 4 hours of sleep is not that much.

Fi was taking us out for my last session. It was a wonderful morning with a stunning sun rise. On our way to Mpila hill we came across a group of spotted hyenas, 7 of them. Some of them were juveniles and some adults.

From Mpila hill we got to see the sun rise. On the other side a front was coming up. It was a dark sky with a brown glow. I’ve never seen anything like it but is was beautiful. We decided to try and track a small pack of dogs. This took us to a part of the park I hadn’t been before so this was great. After we got signal in a part of the reserve where we couldn’t go we drove to a camp at the river to have our morning tea. It had a spectacular view over the river. While sitting here a brown-hooded kingfisher sat in a tree and started calling. It was lovely to watch.

We finished our morning tea and left this wonderful place to go and find the Bhejie Pack. On our way south we came across different animals like zebra, leopard tortoises, white rhino, kudu, a warthog with 4 little piglets. It was the perfect morning to have my last session.

At the camp I packed my the last things in my bag and did a quick load of washing. Almost everything dried except my jumper. The water was still dripping from it. I did the last photo transfers, we took a group photo and then is was time to say goodbye. Fi was taking me and we talked about all sorts of things on during the drive. We stopped at the rhino orphanage. This is where the baby rhino’s stay after their mums dy. This can be because of a natural death but most times this is because their mums were poached and killed. They had some black and white rhinos. The enclosures are very nice and are well kept. They have an inside and outside area. To make sure the won’t be poached after they are released they have been dehorned already.

When we had a proper look around we got back in the car and Fi took me to the exit. Here was my transport driver waiting for me. It was the same man that has driven me around most of the time.

It was time to say goodbye to Fi as well. I will miss her and Ryan. They are great people and a have special place in my heart. If I’ll come back this is certainly one of the reserves.

It was a pleasant drive to Richards Bay. When I arrived at the Zulu lodge I was welcomed by one of the ladies and got to go strait in to my room. It was a great room with a wonderful soft bed. I started to pack my suite cases and had some dinner. After this I called home and went to bed at 8 pm. This was early but I was tiered and there was no power.
