Mahé:             Discovering the island

Dieren vandaag gezien / Animals spotted:

·         Indian minor

·         Giant tortoise

This morning I woke up at 5.30 am. I decided to do so diary writing. When I opened my door I had a totally different view than last night. It was light and I could see the beach. The sun rise had just been and the light was still nice. I walked around to take some photos and then I sat out side whilst writing. The view was mesmerizing.

At 7.30 am breakfast was being served. I got way too much food. A plater with different types of fruits, toast with jam, a glass of orange jus and a pot of tea.

When I finished I took my fruits outside to feed to the tortoises. There were 4 big ones, 3 middle and 2 small. I only fed the big and middle ones. But I had to be carful because they have very strong mouths and I didn’t want to loose a finger, or two. When they want the can walk quite fast. If they see movement near the border of their enclosure they walk up to you, stretch out their necks and make themselves stand as tall as they can be. This means lifting your legs up in the air and hope they even become bigger. It was very cute.

During breakfast I had a chat with the manager and she arranged a driver for me to take me around Mahé today. This would cost me 1300 seychelse rupees (SCR). The exchange rate is €1 = SCR 16. Not too bad.

At 9 am I was picked up by Roy, my driver for today. The first thing we did was driving to his house. I found this a bit weird but we had to pick up his father to take him to the hospital. After doing this we started my sightseeing tour. The first parts I saw were beautiful. Nice beaches with clear blue water in different shades of blue. Roy went to get us a drink, me some water him some beer. This was at 9.45 am in the morning. Weird again. We stopped at some beaches along the way: Anse Bazarca (here we saw turtle tracks on the beach), Anse Takamaka, Grand Anse, Port Glaud. These were all beaches. He told me about how good all the fishing was (a real passion of him) and about different animals they ate, including bats and dolphins. Weird again. After the beach side we drove through some mangroves and some forest area’s to get to Beau Vallon. From this coast line we could see some different Islands including the one I will go to tomorrow. It looks much bigger than I expected it to be. I saw this from a beach that is very popular with the tourist. It was packed and Roy wanted me to go swimming here. I said no, it was way to busy. Then Roy said I didn’t have to worry about my body because I’m very beautiful. Weird again but lets take this one as a compliment.

We drove all the way to the North point and then back down. In the mean time he had gotten his 3th beer, something I told him I didn’t like. But he did it anyway. We passed true Victoria quickly and before I knew it we were back at my guest house, this was 2 pm. I don’t think this counts as a full day, but that’s fine. I learned a valuable lessen today. Don’t go for the cheaper option if it comes to sightseeing.

I was very tiered and went to bed strait away. I slept for more than 2,5 hours. When I woke up I decided it was time to get some dinner. I walked to one of the restaurants to pick up a take away pizza. It was a 10 minute walk and the rain wasn’t far away so I walked fast and made it back before the rain started. It was a lovely pizza and after I finished my meal I repacked my suite case
