No session this morning. Jed had taken the telemetry to find the missing dog with the mortality signal on its collar. We left at 6.30 am and took all of the shopping stuff with us. We drove slowly to the gate in the hope we could see some animals. There weren’t many around. Just some impala’s, giraffe and baboons. One of the males enjoyed himself by giving himself a hand job and pulled something out of his penis, you can guess what is was. Estelle filmed it by accident and showed it to Ryan, he was disgusted. Further on the road we found nothing really exciting.
We arrived at the gate to leave the park. We looked at the bats and weavers before we left. Of to get some breakfast and to do some shopping. On our way down there Fi passed us.
We had breakfast at Feast, a nice sandwich and some Nutella cheesecake. Then the grocery shopping. I had the list and Fi grabbed the food. Somethings were possible others were not. We filled one trolley to the max. One of the things we bought was macaroni with the brand name: no name. I had been thinking of buying a south African sim card so I can have some contact with home. To buy one at pick & pay you have to go through a complicated process. First you ask the lady behind the counter. Her answer is I can’t buy a card because I don’t have citizenship. In the mean time she helped another customer. Step two you go to the manager. She told us they would activate the card on the shops address. Step three, call in another employee to help me get the card and some money on it. Step four, buy the card and some data at the checkout counter. Step five, go back to the manager to activate the card. But to do this you need a passport, mine was still at the camp so I got Jo to help me with that. Step seven, the computer had an update so the system doesn’t work. I had to give her my phone number so she could call me when it was activated, but I don’t have on. Estelle was the next person I included in this little sim card drama. She gave her phone number and after this everything was done so we could leave.
We said goodbye to Fi because she has her 8 days of from now.
Back to camp. I still can’t believe how much trash there is on the sides of the road. We had another toilet stop at the gate and had another look at the weavers. This didn’t last for long because Ryan called us back. Neni and Ndaba had escaped and were seen on the other side of the fence. Quickly to camp to unload the car, grabbing a drink, getting our gear on and off we went. Estelle did the scanning and we did get a signal fairly quick. But then you have to find her. Ryan tried to get them back by making the hoo-call. He is really good in making this sound. We drove around and he called them from different positions. They came a bit closer but not fast enough. Back to the camp to stock up on some drinks and some food. Who wanted to stay home could stay but nobody did. Back at the fence Ryan kept going with the hoo-call. He and Emilie opened a block hole under the fence so they could get back in. After a while all the calling had helped. The dogs walked pass us.
Ryan tried to scare them off so they won’t try again. We tracked them for a while to see if they didn’t go back but they walked away from the fence. I helped closing the hole again after this we went back to camp. Everybody was tiered so they went to bed except for Estelle and me. I activated my sim card and had some contact with home.
