Looking for Neni was our task for this morning session. It didn’t take us long before we had some signal. She was moving fast. Fi had an idea where she was going. After a while we found her and another dog called Ndaba. Both of them looked well at first sight. But Ndaba wasn’t using her right hind leg and had a wound at the start of her tail. They moved on and we’ve lost our visual of them. We drove to the boundary fence and yes that is where we found them. We had our morning tea here. A beautiful place just to have a stop. We waited here for a while but they didn’t show themselves again. Of we went. Finding a new challenge, CF17. On our way there we heard from one of the game drives a pride of lions had made a buffalo kill and were eating it on the side of the road. New information new target. We found the eaten buffalo: his head, bones and skin but no lions. The signal showed us the lions were very close to the camp. We drove back there and walked up to the rock to find the lions resting in the river. I’ve waited for almost all of them to move back into the bushes. Doing this I’ve counted 13 lions. A nice pride.
Ryan had arrived to our camp as well. He is our second monitor and had just arrived back from Botswana. There he picked up 4 female wild dogs to join the 2 males in Somkanda (the 2 boys from Hluhluwe).

In the afternoon searched for Neni again. This time we didn’t find them. What we did find were the cheetahs CM13 and CF…When I found them they were resting but it didn’t take long before they got up. They stared a chase but it was not a good attempt. CM13 didn’t really help and walked true a dazzle of zebra’s. This is actually is quite dangerous. A zebra can kill a cheetah. After we lost sight of them we went back to camp. During our sessions we’ve seen dogs, lions and cheetahs.
One of the first things we did when we came back to the camp was making a fire for the braai and prepare some food. The atmosphere has changed a bit now Ryan has joined us. But for the good. Jed the section ranger came over for dinner to celebrate Estelle’s birthday. As a desert we had a chocolate browny cake. Ryan got some matches (instead of candles) and put them in the shape of 23, her age. We had a wonderful evening full of fun and laughter.
